Are you up for a little fun? Go to www.urbandictionary.com and find the meanings to modern day slang. I know I occasionally run into conversation with people that I do not understand a word they say. This urban dictionary will clear up this “new” language. It is really funny as well!
Here are a few examples:
BlackBerry Prayer: The supplicating position one assumes when grasping the popular six-ounce wireless combination e-mailer/phone known as the BlackBerry between your palms and thumb-tapping messages on its QWERTY keyboard.
Land it in the Hudson: An expression used to encourage yourself or someone else when it appears an endeavor is headed for a disastrous outcome (due mostly to external conditions). Based on when Sully averted tragedy by successfully landing US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River. See also, “Land it like Sully.”
The dictionary also uses the words or phrases in a sentence. The company is on the brink of failure, so let’s Land it in the Hudson.
Information is abundant in our society today. We no longer have to wait for the daily newspaper to find out what is going on in the world. As a matter of fact, many of our daily “rags” are so localized and dumb down that they no longer provide us with the liberal arts education that we need to stay relevant. So were should be turn?
There are endless amounts of online news sources that subsidize their existence with advertising. Now it is a job to sort through all that is available. I have found one source that consistently does a great job; A website www.flavorpill.com. They have a regionalized websites for major cosmopolitan cities, a daily e-mail subscription newsletter and a blog of endless information. The “Daily Dose” is a great place to start with its two key bits of news from art, film or music emailed to you every day.

With the turn of the year 2009, I find that my thought have turned to the subject of how to keep my retail jewelry store relevant in this new era and economy. I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as a “bad” economy. 2009 will be the most radically changed economy we have experienced in most of our lifetimes. This blog is dedicated to this change and how to keep relevant to this change. I hope that I can “Rock the Jewelry World!”
